Yes, especially on a weekday when it’s served at Poké Bowls all across town at these restaurants. With this poke bowl recipe, the entire meal is prepared in the microwave, and you can serve the poke bowls to kids with a kid-friendly dip or even serve the poke as a healthy appetizer for guests.
Can I eat poke every day?
Yes, for sure, you can. Though it’s sort of become part of my everyday bowl, the poke bowl isn’t really a “real” poke. This isn’t chopped-up tuna, scallions, or a sliver of lime. Poke is closer to the definition of Hawaii’s famous ulu salad.
It’s rich, thick, and full of ginger flavor. The flavors here are deep, the greens are crisp, and the batter (which isn’t fried at all), is a clean wheat-flour-and-salt-based mix. This batter is new to me, but it is so freaking awesome that I am constantly craving it. And that includes the bowl.
My only beef is that I wish Poke Bowls made Poke more often, even for just $5. I’m going to be moving to their new location (the poke bowls) as soon as it opens up next year when it’s convenient for me. I would love to order poke every day there!
Is poke good for digestion?
No, poke is more like a savory brunch. But, if you are like me, it’s an easy, delicious way to make some food for yourself and a few guests that won’t sit in your stomach all day.
Another way to describe poke is that it is a form of “salad bowl,” which is a tradition and recipe from Hawaii. And, a poke bowl is a good example of how to properly treat a carbohydrate in a healthy manner. Because it’s a bowl of finely chopped, fresh vegetables, it’s very low in carbohydrates.
So, if you have celiac disease and need to reduce your carb intake, poke is a good choice. Or, if you are living in the southern states and can’t tolerate poke’s traditional ingredients, you can make a vegan poke bowl.
Is poke healthy for weight loss?
I’ve been looking at the healthful foods that work well for weight loss and have found an abundance of research focusing on many different natural and non-natural foods, including raw or unsalted nuts; sprouts and other healthy vegetables; fresh fruit and vegetables; egg whites (eggs are rich in protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals; and fiber); and whole grains (gluten-free and nutrient-rich whole grains are rich in complex carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins).
But if the entire world is coming to the realization that a little exercise can help promote weight loss and improve health, shouldn't the community at large get on board with choosing fresh fruit and vegetables as healthy options for weight loss and healthy eating?
Poke is a healthy way to get in a high-protein meal, but Poke bowls are high in carbohydrates. What are some other nutritious and filling meals that contain protein but are low in carbohydrates?
